The general objective of the project is to preserve the historical heritage and to promote the local culture of the cross-border regions through the preservation of "Sołdek" and "Vityaz" ship-museums and the creation of permanent exhibitions promoting knowledge of shipping and maritime transport. Both historic ships are unique monuments of technology which are legally protected. Ships must meet the requirements for the maritime safety and technical condition. They must be renovated in order not to lose the possibility of fulfilling their functions. The main activities within the project contain renovation of historical ships – Soldek and Vityaz at the shipyards (major repairs at dry-dock) and creation of new permanent exhibitions at Soldek and Vityaz (issues concerning the history of Polish and Russian ship technology, researchers and constructors). The exchange of experience on the cultural heritage between the employees of both museums and the university will contribute to better achievement of the project results.
