The event took place on Tuesday, May 22, in the theater "Amber Hall". The participants of the Forum were greeted by the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region Mr. Eduard Batanov, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Russian Federation Mr. Markus Ederer, the Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Mr. Andrey Kelin, the Director of the Department for Development and Regulation of Foreign Economic Activities of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Mr. Vitaly Gudin, the Chairman of the Kaliningrad Regional Duma Ms. Marina Orgeeva, Chairman of the Subregional Cooperation of the Baltic States Mr. Roger Rayberg.
More than 300 people from the regions of Russia and foreign countries took part in the Forum: Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Finland, Belarus, Norway and Estonia. The First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the region noted that the geography of participants invariably covers every year a large number of European countries and the regions of the Russian Federation.
Mr. Andrei Kelin, Director of the Department of European Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, conveyed welcoming remarks from Russian Foreign Minister Mr. Sergey Lavrov: "The Forum brings together representatives of various European states, contributes to maintaining an atmosphere of trust, mutual understanding and good-neighborliness. Joint projects contribute to the expansion of trade-economic, intellectual and cross-border exchanges, contacts between people. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the energetic activity of the administration of the Kaliningrad region to implement the Programmes of cross-border cooperation between Russia and the European Union.
The European Union Ambassador to the Russian Federation Mr. Markus Ederer said that such events are important for establishing relations between countries and regions."Previous programs of cross-border cooperation helped to implement projects in the field of medicine, ecology and infrastructure. In the programmes that started this year, there are many interesting projects. This work will bring positive changes in our relations. The Kaliningrad region is a region that unites us”, the diplomat said.
At the round table on Cross-Border Cooperation Programmes, the presentation of the Poland-Russia CBC Programme 2014-2020 was made by the Head of the Joint Technical Secretariat, Ms. Katarzyna Bartnik. She spoke about the current state of the Programme and 1st Call for Proposals as well as prospects of the Programme in the Programme area The Forum was also attended by the representative of the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development of the Republic of Poland, Ms. Ewa Termena-Chyży. The participants and guests of the Forum discussed the holding of the World Cup in Kaliningrad, practical aspects of interregional cooperation, including cross-border cooperation programmes between Russia and the EU, the development of culture and the film industry, urban planning and much more.
