On 1-2 October 2019, a Polish-Russian conference "International cooperation – necessity and opportunity" took place in Gołdap. The meeting was attended by representatives of the local governments, non-governmental organisations, journalists, diplomats, as well as foresters and policemen from Poland and Russia.
Participants had an opportunity to share experiences related to the Polish-Russian cooperation and projects implemented with partners from Russia. A representative of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Poland-Russia Programme 2014-2020, provided the participants with a presentation on the effects of the implementation of the Poland-Russia Programme. Two projects approved within the thematic objective "heritage" were also presented at the conference. The first project "Olsztynek-Kaliningrad – from the common history to the future partnership", was presented by Ms Svetlana Sokolova – Director of the Kaliningrad Zoological Garden. In the second part of the conference, Ms Olga Bruno – Chief Architect of the Svetlogorsk District told about the Large Infrastructure Project entitled "Development of tourist-recreational potential and water tourism in Svetly and Malbork towns (phase 2).
