Today, the official opening of the Amber Museum in Gdańsk took place in a new location. Among the many invited guests, there were: Mr Sergey Semenov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Poland; Mr Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomorskie Voivodeship; Ms Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, President of Gdańsk; Mr Leszek Buller, Director of the Center of European Projects, Mr Mirosław Marczewski, Deputy Director of the Center of European Projects and Ms Katarzyna Bartnik, Head of the Joint Technical Secretariat of the Poland-Russia Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020.

Thanks to the funds from the Poland-Russia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020, a new permanent exhibition was created in the new location of the Amber Museum, which was moved to the Great Mill in Gdańsk. On the first floor, there is an exhibition presenting connections of amber with nature (including, among others, the ‘amber forest’ known from the former location of the museum), while on the 2nd floor there is an exhibition connected with the importance of amber in culture and presenting the history of amber from prehistoric times till modern times. One of the centrepieces of the exhibition is an amber chess set from 1690, which is presented in a special display case.

It is also worth mentioning that the Great Mill is fully adapted to the needs of people with motor disabilities, who can use a lift to get to the places where the exhibitions are presented. Entry and exit from the building are also wheelchair accessible.

The project partner is the World Ocean Museum (Russia), which as part of the project prepared a construction and working design for maintenance and adaptation works of the historic amber manufactory in Kaliningrad, reconstruction of 6 garages located on at the back of the manufacture and their transformation into new storages and exhibition rooms as well as purchase of appropriate equipment

The total value of the project is 2 293 426.24 EUR, whereas co-financing for the project is 2 064 083.61 EUR.

The Amber Museum will be open for residents and tourists visiting Gdańsk from tomorrow (this Saturday, 24th July, from 10:00). Visitors will be able to see the new amber museum space and take advantage of many attractions connected with amber.
