Protection and sustainable use of water recreational facilities in border cities in Ketrzyn and KaliningradPR/1/073/2018

The main objective of the project is to contribute to protection of water resources in the cross-border area and raise environmental consciousness among people to ensure a change in their behaviour towards the environment.

The activities planned by the Polish and Russian partners are aimed at renovation of the rainwater drainage and hydrotechnical infrastructure, improvement of the ecological status of the water reservoirs and development of the territories for recreational purposes in Kętrzyn and Kaliningrad. In particular, the reconstruction of the rainwater drainage system and the renovation of the road infrastructure around the Kętrzyńskie Lake will be carried out on the Polish side. The Polish partner will also prepare technical documentation – a water and legal survey, which will enable the reclamation of the Kętrzyńskie Lake in the future. The activities of the Russian partner in Kaliningrad will include the reconstruction of the hydrotechnical facilities and the improvement of the sanitary-ecological state of the Golubaja River as well as the improvement of the sanitary-ecological status and the development of the coastal zone of the ponds and the water channel of the Letneje Lake.

The project partners are also committed to raising public awareness of environmental issues, and several activities, including summer camps for young people, will be organised in the project to demonstrate thatsolving similar problems and achieving common goals relating to cleanliness of the water reservoirs in the cross-border area are possible only in cross-border cooperation
